a miscellany

Why?

I’m a design student. A communications design student to be precise. September marked the beginning of my fourth year in the program. Fourth, and what should be, the final year. Sometime during the middle of third year though, between worrying whether or not I even had enough credits and contemplating my thesis project, I decided that I just wasn’t ready to graduate. Since our grad project is supposed to represent the culmination of our studies I want it to be good, something I can be proud of. I don’t want to change the world with my grad project, but I do want it to be something that I feel I can be passionate about. My problem is that I don’t really know what my passions are. Passions, that is, that extend beyond the world of art and design.

As I watch my peers wading through the process of their final projects I’m contemplating my own. This blog is my attempt to document the “pre-design process”. My quest to discover that, that I am truly passionate about. Maybe even, discover myself.

What I have so far:

I have a love for literature. As I’ve discovered recently a strong interest in myth and story telling—the story as a representation of culture. Also language as a representation of culture. I have a fascination for languages and an interest in linguistics.

What I plan to do with this blog is to post thoughts as I have them relating to my quest and tidbits that I find along the way that inspire me.
